Rachel DeAlto Interview

From the moment Rachel walked in for her photoshoot her radiant smile lit up the whole space. I knew this would be a fun and exciting session and sure enough we had lots of laughs and created amazing images along the way.

Rachel came to me for branding photography because she needed updated images for her online presence. She is a relationship expert, a spokesperson for match.com, keynote speaker, and a TV personality who appeared on shows like Lifetime’s hit show Married at First Sight and TLC’s Kate+Date where she was brought on to coach Kate Gosselin.

Her authentic charismatic personality makes her relatable and easy to work with and it's no wonder she became very successful in her field. I was excited when she agreed for an interview with me to be featured on my website and share some her journey and relationship wisdom with us.

Q: When and why did you decide to become a relationship expert?

A: It wasn’t on purpose! I was a lawyer who back in 2008 decided to start a dating company based on a novel idea. I ended up doing quite a bit of television in relation to promoting the company, which lead to viewers asking me to coach them (another industry I wasn’t familiar with). I pursued a coaching certification and while the company sadly dissolved, the opportunity to help people continued.

Q: What is your favorite part of the job?

A: The best part of the job is seeing someone’s (or a couple’s) transformation.

Q: What is the major change you saw in dating word in the last year?

Apps are everything, and it's no longer a big deal to not have met in “real” life.

Q: Do you see things changing in the next few years and how?

A. I believe the abundance of options will eventually show daters that more is not more, and hopefully shift people to focus on what is in front of them and not always think “what’s next?"

Q: Can you share your best 5 dating tips?

A: Be open to people who aren’t your “type", say yes to new opportunities, define your core values and seek them in a partner, give people a chance past a first date, and always make YOU a priority.

Q: What are the most common mistakes people make in relationships?

A: Complacency is a relationship killer. If you never stop dating and courting your partner, the feelings never die.

Q: Do you think digital apps hurt or help relationships?

A: As I mentioned above, I think we are in a tough spot with dating - the abundance of “opportunity” can lead to daters failing to appreciate what’s in front of them. That needs to change.

Q: What are the most common things people ask your advice?

A: Why am I single? Where do I meet good people? How can I build more confidence?.

Q: Do you have any advice for someone who is interested in going into your filed of work?

A: It’s an amazing field of work. I highly suggest anyone looking to get into dating or relationships to pursue a coaching certification or a degree in counseling/social work/psychology.
